Discus does not eat

of Heinz-Peter » 30.11.2012 15:01

Hello discus friends,
I am new here and would like to introduce myself.
My name is Heinz-Peter and after keeping discus fish in previous years, I fell in love with these wonderful fish again. About 8 weeks ago I bought 12 young discuses (then about 5cm tall). So far they have developed splendidly - except for 2. One of them has recovered very well after I treated him with "Preis-Carely" and "ESHA2000".
But the other one has been causing problems for about 1 week - he no longer eats, although he looks almost normal; it is a little darker and swims normally in the pool. Now and then he hides, but comes to the front when I come in front of the pool. The others behave quite normally - he is not suppressed by the others either. The cure with "Preis-Carely" and ESHA2000 was unsuccessful.
Can someone help me? At the moment I don't know what else I can do.
Best regards,
Heinz-Peter

Hello Hans Peter,
based on what symptoms or reasons you treated with esha etc.
Have you had your animal examined beforehand or something similar?
Just because an animal doesn't eat or has a fart sitting across it shouldn't be treated with medication right away.
It may have harmed the other animals more than helped. Especially with regard to the effectiveness of the means on then real diseases. In your case of reluctance to eat, there are completely different methods of helping the animal.
The fact that the animals lag behind in their development is completely normal and this does not always have something to do with a disease.
There are also people small, large, fat and thin.
In your case, I would have tried a heat regimen first. I think that would do more than the medication.

Hello Björn,
Many thanks for your response.
The symptoms are: he has separated himself from the group a bit, has become darker and, above all, he no longer eats, even if the food swims in front of his mouth. He is already a little emaciated and much smaller than the rest of the group.
I treated him separately.
I'll try the heat treatment - thanks for the tip
Regards, Heinz-Peter

How do I find this diagnostic form?
I have already saved a description of my pool and the water values in my profile.

Hello Heinz
I will probably make myself unpopular now with my But you will probably not get through these two youngsters.
They are already burdened with problems from rearing.
You can feed them back up for a short time, but after a while they revert to the same stage and worse.
Try but I give you no hope. The diagnostic form required by some is not required in this case in my opinion.
Greetings Joachim

Howdy, I would transfer the comrade to the quarantine tank and slowly increase the temperature to 32-33 degrees. It helped a lot with my problem, he is now always the first to eat
You can also try Echinitreen and Tubefix as live food! Are at least adored by mine!

Hello Joachim, Hello Sebastian,
Thank you for your answers. @ Joachim: Yes, you are probably right, but of course I will try everything to get them through.
@Sebastian: I have already increased the temperature in the pool and hope that it will help me. Now I noticed yesterday that someone else wasn't eating properly either. I hope I can get this under control. We will see! (says the "Kaiser")

I put it in an extra tank, so the co-fish and shrimp didn't suffer from the temperatures! And nothing was eaten away from under his nose!

In my case, this eating laziness came along with the constipation, and this I conclude on one-sided nutrition! I would never feed exclusively beef heart mixes again, that is too often a problem! Better variable and no jumbos

Hello discus friends,
I have a small success to report in this matter, because my little one is eating a bit again. Of course he's not over the mountain yet, but at least.
As you advised me, I increased the temperature a little and also took a cure with "Hexa-Ex".

Hello,
I'll get in touch again and I have to tell you that my discussions are doing great. Again, I've gotten everyone through and they're doing very well.
I still had a filter problem, which I fixed with an additional filter.
Best regards,
Heinz-Peter
