Can you own land in Vietnam
After almost 3 months without domestic corona infections, some infections are currently being diagnosed every day. In order to keep the risk of infection as low as possible, the Vietnamese authorities have almost completely closed the country from abroad, which also has an impact on traveling with a tourist or business visa. In this article you can read about the impact the measures will have on your travel plans. The information in the article was last updated on May 14, 2021.
Corona problem in Vietnam
The Vietnamese authorities took measures against Corona early on. Meanwhile, 3,740 infections and 35 deaths as a result of Covid-19 have been reported (as of May 13, 2021). This makes Vietnam one of the countries that have the virus best under control. The measures taken by the authorities serve not only to stop the spread of the virus within the borders of Vietnam, but also to prevent the entry of infected people.
Vietnam has also taken tough measures against the further spread of Corona / Covid-19
Travel to Vietnam is currently not possible
In general, foreigners cannot travel to Vietnam until further notice. Only Vietnamese nationals are allowed to enter. Exceptions can also be made for people wishing to enter to provide medical or other specialized assistance and there is an exception for experts, business managers and highly skilled workers who are needed to keep or rebuild the Vietnamese economy. These people cannot apply for the visa at the embassy or consulate, but your Vietnamese business partner has to do it himself in Vietnam.
People who are allowed to enter must obtain a certificate from a doctor before leaving, confirming that they have no symptoms of Covid-19 and that they have tested negative for Covid-19. At the passport control they have to be able to show this certificate and after arriving in Vietnam they have to spend 21 days in a designated place in quarantine. During this time, they will be tested three times for Covid-19. If both tests are negative, they are allowed to remain in home quarantine / self-isolation for the next 7 days, where they are retested twice. The travelers themselves have to pay for the stay in the quarantine facilities and for the tests.
An exception to the quarantine obligation can be granted for diplomats, holders of business passports and business travelers, the above-mentioned "experts, business managers and highly skilled workers", and their immediate family members, so that they can already carry out activities during the quarantine period The Vietnamese business partner in the country itself can be applied for. Even after this exemption has been granted, these persons must, however, have a PCR test in one of the Vietnamese government recognized within a period of 3 to 7 days before their arrival in Vietnam (i.e. before departure) You have to have a regular PCR test carried out in Vietnam yourself. You are only allowed to leave your accommodation in order to attend the permitted appointments in the course of your work. In addition, all travelers must either be in possession of a health insurance that covers the medical costs i m abroad, or provide a guarantee from your company that any costs arising in connection with the coronavirus will be covered.
Applying for a visa is still possible
In contrast to the VOA, it is still possible to apply for a Vietnam e-Visa. However, the applications for an e-visa will only be processed again by the immigration authorities if the entry ban itself is lifted again. Please note that it is not yet known when this will be the case and that it is also not yet known whether additional provisions for entry with a visa to Vietnam will apply after this date.

You are still in Vietnam
The measures taken by the Vietnamese authorities in relation to Corona have been reduced somewhat, but differ locally. There is a general obligation to use mouth and nose protection in public spaces and a minimum distance must be maintained in restaurants. Corona tests are also carried out in public spaces, which you are obliged to undergo. High fines can be imposed if these hygiene regulations are violated. You may be forced to go into quarantine in undesirable and unsanitary circumstances if you experience symptoms. In this case, contact the German, Austrian or Swiss embassy in Vietnam.
If you want or have to fly from Vietnam to Europe, you can do so with a scheduled flight from Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi via the South Korean capital Seoul, Incheon Airport. Asiana Airlines, Korean Air and KLM offer flights. Since March 30, 2021, travelers returning to Germany by plane have to have a PCR or an antigen test that meets the WHO minimum requirements carried out before departure (antibody tests are not recognized), the negative test report at the check - Present it in and keep it for up to 10 days after your return journey. The test must be carried out 48 hours before departure. After your return to Germany, you will be quarantined at home for at least 5 days, whereby you need a negative corona test to lift the quarantine, which will be carried out on the 5th day after arrival at the earliest.
If you are still in Vietnam and cannot or do not want to return, please contact the Immigration Servicesto find out if and how to extend your visa or residence permit. Immigration Service has offices in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.
Liability for the financial (consequential) damage
The coronavirus causes great financial damage to travelers, travel agents, tour operators and insurance companies. In some cases it is possible to obtain compensation, but certainly not always. Vietnam immigration authorities are not returning money to travelers who have already paid the cost of the visa but cannot use the visa due to the coronavirus.
Disclaimer: The coronavirus (Covid-19) has far-reaching consequences for a large number of travelers, with or without a Vietnam visa. Not all consequences can currently be assessed correctly and many measures and restrictions change daily.
