Entry in the register of opposition

The objection register enables an objection to the organ donation to be effectively documented. It was set up on January 1st, 1995 and is run by the Austrian Federal Institute for Health Care (Ă–BIG) together with the Poisoning Information Center. As of December 31, 2019, 49,774 people were entered in the objection register, 40,902 of whom are domiciled in Austria.

All hospitals are required by law, before organ removal from brain-dead people, the objection register queryto see if she / he has objected to organ donation. The query is possible around the clock.

Anyone who does not want to donate organs in the event of their own death can fill out the form "Organ donation - objection / change / deletion"explain his / her objection in a legally secure environment. For this purpose, the completed form is sent to the objection register by e-mail or post. The form must be signed by the opponent. Minors aged 14 and over can object themselves.

The opponent's data are entered in the computerized register of opposition. This is followed by a Registration confirmation sent by post to the person concerned.

People who have their objection to organ donation documented in the objection register also receive an organ when they need it.
