How are black people treated in Slovenia

Hydrogen carbonate water: "Black" healing water against rheumatic diseases

Rarity in Slovenia: dark thermal water improves lung disease and psoriasis.

VIENNA. Whether it is unique in Europe - as some claim - or “just” a rarity remains to be seen, one thing is certain: the healing “black thermal water” does not often appear on our globe. While searching for oil, it was found near Moravske Toplice (Slovenia) in 1960.

The healing water is not really black, but it is very dark and cloudy. And it tastes salty and smells a little like petroleum. "Among other things, the color comes from the many minerals", mentions the spa doctor Dr. Jasna Roncevic-Lukacic. It contains sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, fluoride, chloride, among others. "It is a hydrogen carbonate water, and it usually comes cold from the earth, but our water is hyperthermal, that is, it is warm."

At 72 degrees, the water comes from a depth of 1476 to 1570 meters; for therapy it is "cooled" to 36 degrees. According to the spa doctor, the warmth alone can relieve pain. The word pain does not appear in the official indications, but a number of diseases that are associated with pain - including degenerative and chronic rheumatism, osteoarthritis, postoperative condition and injuries. "Marc Girardelli was also with us because of pain after an operation, it helped him a lot," says TomazPevec, Marketing Director of Terme 3000 in Moravske Toplice.

Pain relieving effect

"The analgesic effect," explains Dr. Roncevic-Lukacic, "is partly due to the carbon dioxide in the water." "This stimulates the blood circulation, which is particularly helpful in the case of chronic inflammation against pain."

An improvement in the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD has also been proven. “We have done studies on this and have shown that inhalations with black water have an extremely good effect.

There are also studies on psoriasis. 105 patients with psoriasis were divided into two groups, half of which were treated in a hospital or in Moravske Toplice - the basic therapy was the same, in the health resort there was also a bath in dark thermal mineral water.

Psoriasis study

After three weeks, the success of the treatment was assessed on a scale from one (deterioration) to five (excellent success) - both objectively (clinical examinations) and subjectively by the patients. In the hospital patients the objective values were 2.91 (= good), the patients rated the subjective healing success with 3.33. The final rating for the patients with thermal water: objective rating 3.5, subjective rating slightly higher than four.

"Of the 53 psoriasis patients who bathed in the black water, seven had almost no signs of illness after the cure," said Roncevic-Lukacic. However, there is still no reliable information about the duration of remission.

Stress relieving and calming

The facts that black water has a calming and stress-relieving effect are reliable, not scientifically founded, but observed several times: Improvement in urinary tract infections and faster tanning of the skin.

But the latter has not yet been a reason for anyone to stay in Moravske Toplice. Although many Austrians come primarily for wellness, while Germans do so primarily for health reasons. But because of the particularly low prices, nobody needs to come anymore, because they are a thing of the past.
